House M.D.: Insensitive (2007)
Season 3, Episode 14

Summary

Warning: Spoilers
I LOVED this episode!!! It starts out with a woman driving her daughter to the hospital because she fell "awkwardly" on the ice. Looking at her daughter she doesn't see the semi truck coming towards their car. Hannah (the girl) wakes up after being unconscious for a moment and calls 911. The 911 dispatcher asks if she is hurt, Hannah looks down and sees a piece of metal sticking in her thigh, she lies and says no. At the hospital Foreman is examining Hannah who is worried about her mother who is still unconscious from the accident. House comes down (to do who knows what) and notes that Hannah winced when Foreman cleans her wounds, but instead of wincing by pulling her leg back, she winces by pushing her leg forward towards Foreman. By seeing this House declares that Hannah has CIPA and that they need to do a series of tests. CIPA (Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhydrous) a rare inherited disorder of the nervous system which prevents the sensation of pain, heat, and cold. A person with CIPA cannot feel pain or differentiate extreme temperatures. "Anhidrosis" means the body does not sweat, and "congenital" means that the condition is present from birth. (with only 60 documented cases.) It turns out that she has a Vitamin C deficiency, and a tapeworm. Cameron suggests to Chase that they sleep together.
