Fando and Lis (1968)
7/10
The Theater Of Cruelty
13 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
When I watched this film I was constantly thinking and analyzing, as virtually every scene is filled with some metaphorical, philosophical, or psychological significance. Jordowsky(the director) actually goes over each scene in the commentary. The story is about a two lovers, one a parapeligic in a cart, traveling through a post apacolyptic Mexican desert searching for the magical city of "Tar". Anyone interested in surreal films, magic realism, where Easy Rider, Night Of The Living Dead, and The Mars Volta got a lot of their ideas from I strongly recommend this, just try to look deeper when watching it, no matter how bizarre things seem to get. Jodorowsky apparently created the story while filming, and used his theater of cruelty ideas while working with the actors, the results are sensational.
