I give this a deserved 10/10 and believe me I don't't ever do that lightly with anything! In fact the only other programs I have given are ones that contain muppets and puppets! Rising Damp in my eyes was funny and deserves to be in the top twenty sitcoms of all time but this easily out-strips that. There were just so many continuous running jokes in it that were always a pleasure to hear again and again each time they happened. It even got to the point that two laughs were caused, the first because you knew what was coming and the second for when it actually happened! The 'farting' leather armchairs, the running hippopotamous appearing in a thought cloud whenever he thought about his Mother-in-Law, the bottles of awful home brewed wine that had been brewed from things like turnips or carrots to name just three of the many.
And what about the items that were sold in the numerous Grot shops as they became a national chain. Items such as the square hoops so that the wouldn't be able to roll away from you and get lost. or the salt and pepper pots that had no holes in (the reason for this I can't remember as it's been a long time while since I've seen the programme) were sold among the rubbish all of which were quickly snapped up by customers all over the country.
This is the only Leonnard Rossiter sit-com you should buy on DVD! Yes Rising Damp is good.......but this is SO much better!
