Two young girls are seen arriving at the farm where Hermansson, the owner of the stable allows then to come and help him with the horses. As they get near, they notice one of the horses running loose. Entering the stable, they find Hermansson, who runs the place, with a head wound. On the floor, one the girls, discovers a crushed pair of eyeglasses, something that will be an important part in solving the death of this man. When the police arrive, they believe Hermansson was kicked in the head by the horse, looking at the wound, the investigators realize this is homicide.

Wallander, taking a ride along a country road, almost runs over a woman that is walking. This lady, Aja, proves to be a mystery to Kurt. After he offers to take her home, she asks whether he can take her to his apartment. Aja spends the night, although nothing sexual happened. Kurt feels attracted to Aja, although the feeling seems to be mutual. Aja reveals she is divorcing her husband.

As the investigation continues, a friend of the dead man, Jesper Nilsson, is interviewed. Nilsson lives with his sister, but their relationship is not a loving one. Jesper in fact, goes to Hermansson's place to take something that was kept locked; the package he takes appears to contain money. The police, going over the house, discover a series of photographs in which women in different kinky costumes are depicted as being involved in sadistic sex. That leads the police to Malmo to a club that specializes in sexual fun and games.

The parents of one of the two girls have a great deal to lose with the investigation, although not being the killers of Hermansson. Aja, the mystery woman takes Kurt to a friend's house. A newspaper article gets Wallander's attention. It is about the lady in whose house Aja is now entertaining Kurt. When he interviews this business woman, she ties Hermansson to a series of blackmailing the dead man exerted from the different women.

This installment ends when Aja meets Kurt one evening at Ystad main plaza. She asks him to close his eyes and count from one to one hundred. When he finishes, he looks around and realizes Aja has left him standing alone in the square.

Jonas Grimas directed this episode of the series which is based on characters in the stories of Henning Mankell, the creator of Kurt Wallander. This chapter mixes sex, murder and perhaps a new love for Kurt Wallander. The acting is good. Krister Henriksson does a great take on the main character. This actor transforms himself to give an inspired rendition of the police chief.
