El héroe (1994)
9/10
Pessimistic but beautiful

Warning: Spoilers
"El Héroe" a short film by Carlos Carrera, director of the atrocious and overrated film "The Crime of Father Amaro", is probably his best work as director, along with his other animated short in stop-motion "De Raíz". The story is a bit simplistic, but is poignant and without any word, introduces us into a dark, somewhat cynical, but very interesting view of the world. One of the best things of this short is the incredible animation of it: The designs are stylish and full of details. In some ways, this reminded me a bit the shorts of Bill Plympton, but with a darker tone. Too bad that Carlos Carrera only made two animated shorts. His other movies are boring and unoriginal.
