The 3D concert experience I wish to forget!
12 April 2011
I am not a fan at all of Miley Cyrus or Hannah Montana, and not of 3D either. But I saw Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus:The Best of Both Worlds Concert out of curiosity, and in all honesty it is an experience that I wish to forget. It's not quite as unwatchable as the Jonas Brothers 3D concert, but while I disliked that as well especially for the screaming even the recent Justin Bieber movie was better than this.

Miley Cyrus herself is a big part of the problem. I have never thought of her much as an actress nor as a role model, and that is including the Hannah Montana movie and The Last Song, I do find her presence very forced. Here is no exception, I do not think she has any charisma and she really does not seem to be enjoying herself. Her singing is even worse I feel, I dislike her shrill, shrieky tone and her pitching always feels flat for my musical ears.

Let's get onto the music. I love music just as much as I love film but I honestly hated the music here. It feels as though it was written in a hurry with no heart and soul as the lyrics are cheesy and unmemorable and the melodies are dull and plodding, yes even the more upbeat songs. And it doesn't help that the sound itself is so grungy. The choreography is also messy with a complete lack of imagination and feel for the song, and when it comes to performing it the backing group actually did a better job than Miley did. Before I do get flamed, I do know it takes time, work and effort to produce a concert, but it also requires heart which is severely lacking here.

That's not all. I did not like how the concert was shot. The camera angles go at really dizzying angles, the lighting alone gave me a headache and the editing feels cheap. And I see I am not the only one who found the close-ups of the mother really creepy, or that most of the interviews were embarrassing or even the screaming audience got too much. Then there is the 3D, which in my view was not necessary, and what is worse it was badly done as well not only lacking clarity but also distracting rather than enhancing.

All in all, a must perhaps for Miley Cyrus fans but other than that a waste of time and something to stay clear of. 1/10 Bethany Cox
