Experimental Cinema...
16 May 2011
'Dhobi Ghat', Written & Directed by Kiran Rao, caters to those who enjoy Experimental Cinema. It's only for those who watch films that mirror with reality. Though a brave attempt, I still found the drama not as convincing, as I thought it would be.

'Dhobi Ghat' Centers around 4 people, respectively. That are. A newly married Muslim immigrant, who loves to makes home videos. A painter is who a loner. A NRI investment banker who has come to India and begins to photograph Dhobi ghat. A Muslim clothes washer, who dreams to be an actor.

Connecting such extreme people in one story, is a hard thing to do. Kiran Rao's entire treatment to this story, is very complex and very slow-pace. As said, this drama caters to a niche audience. Kiran Rao's writing, I thought, was good in parts. I loved the story behind the Muslim immigrant, played by Kriti Malhotra. But, I thought the character of the painter, played by Aamir Khan, seemed dull & uneven. The Track Between The Dhobi & the NRI, packs in some moments.

Cinematography, Editing, Music & Coustume Design seemed perfect. Performance-Wise: Aamir Khan doesn't really impress, as his character itself doesn't have much plans. Kriti Malhotra as Yasmin, is simply fantastic. She genuinely steals the show! Prateik Babbar & Monica Dogra play with their parts with confidence.

On the whole, A film for those, who watch Cinema, to find realism.
