Review of Two Tars

Two Tars (1928)
Traffic Jam
3 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Laurel and Hardy are sailors who help two girls who are having a duel of wits with a gum ball machine. They destroy it.

Taking the girls for a drive, they get stuck in a traffic jam. The car behind bumps theirs and jolts the four passengers. One thing leads to another and a general mêlée ensues. It ends with a dozen cars in various stages of demolishment pursue Laurel and Hardy into a railroad tunnel and hastily back as a locomotive roars through it. Laurel and Hardy didn't quite manage to escape, and the exit the tunnel in a car that has been squished in half laterally.

I don't think it's among their best, though it's mildly diverting. The brawl among the stalled cars isn't very inventive. People plop cement on others' heads, squirt oil in somebody's face, and tear each others cars apart piece by piece. They were to do far more inventive stuff in a short while.
