Review of Die blonde Carmen

I have to say this is one of her best because her co male lead, WolfGang Liebeniener, who plays the song writer of the operetta, Joe, does not up stage her. In the 1932, Blue from the sky ,Herman Thimig up stages her. The scenes that I have seen of her and her Husband Jan Kiepura from other features, He seems to up stage her a bit. Leo Slezak, who plays the composer of Die blonde Carmen Otto, had appeared in an earlier film with Martha ,Modern Dowry 1932. German character actress,stalwart,the always grinning Ida Wust, shows up as either Marthas aunt or Agent or both. After a success in a theatrical revue at Budapest,Ilk ,Ida, suggest to Maria Barkas that they take a vacation in the mountains at Ilka,possibly friends Lodge. One night when maria and Ilka are at the balcony,they over hear Both Joseph and Otto ,at the bottom talking about actors.They are talking to each other about actresses.Joseph is putting one down and That anger Maria and she want to throw flower base down at them but Ilka stops her.Then she hears about the new musical play they are writing ,Die Blonde Carmen. She's determine to get that role.So she disguise her self as a house cleaner and influences them to hire her as a cleaner and a cook to spy on their writing.Maria slowly reveal herself when she starts to look at their script , while she force them out of the house for a walk,after lunch, to clean up the rooms.While Joseph and Otto go to a tavern,that when they meet Ilka,in which Otto meet earlier at the carnival.So Otto invites her back to their rooms.This is when Joseph notices she was reading the script.She quickly drops it and tries to go back to her cleaning. Ilka know that Maria is putting on.Then Maria after dinner starts to sing the song while Otto is playing to the tune .Ilka tries to warn her not to yet.This is when Otto and Joseph realize she has a good voice for the part.But she still puts them off. Well when Otto decides to get the producer up where he and his song writer are,Hans Liebelt As Max, to hear the songs they finished. Eventually Max hears Maria and is convince that she be good for the part.But being an unknown they feels that it's was impossible to play the lead.They still have to find a big star for the lead.Ilka suggest Maria Barkas of Budapest,That she would agree to play the role.The creators of the musical play not being aware that the house cleaner is her. Well now in Berlin,the alleged house cleaner is rehearsing her small part. One of the actress Lillie,played by Ellen Frank, complains to the producer about that.It's getting Late and Maria Barkas is not showing up.The team and the producer are worried.Then Maria ,as the house cleaner is dressed up to play the lead,not knowing she is Barkaus Joseph tries to stop her. But she goes on and both theatrical producer and Joseph fear the worst.It turns out that they realize it was Maria after all.The shows a hit.Joseph Eichhiem ,who was in fools in the snow as the proprietor of the ski lodge, plays another lodge proprietor.Good analog print .Available at www.Germanwarfilms.com 12/09/12
