Phil, the eternal big kid, is seen in action playing with his children. Something goes wrong; he feels a stabbing pain in his lower back, which does not even let him move. Claire wants to take him to the hospital so he can be checked out, but he does not want to go, until she prevails. It all points out to be a kidney stone that is causing the problem.

Manny is surprised when his father, Javier, arrives to get him, a day late. Attached to his car there is a shining boat which impresses the boy. Jay is obviously not glad to see the younger man. Javier decides to spend the night with Jay and Gloria. Jay is awakened by the sound of someone playing pool in the family room. Javier who cannot sleep decided to play for a little bit.

In spite of having been Gloria's former husband, Jay is not hostile toward the guy. Javier who is into sports big time, suggests Jay go take a ride in his motorcycle. Jay confesses he to play baseball but he never could hit a curve pitch. Javier has the solution for that problem. He takes Jay and Manny to practice at the Dodger stadium late that night.

Mitchell has been trying to get Lily to go to sleep by herself, even when she is crying for attention. Cam, on the other hand, wants to spoil the toddler by going to her when she starts to cry. Late at night, as the two are in bed, cries from Lily can be heard on the monitoring device. Cam's reaction is to go and get the girl, but Mitchell is adamant to let her go to sleep when she gets tired of crying.

Michael Spiller directed this episode which Christopher LLoyd, one of the creators of the series wrote for it. Benjamin Bratt showed up as Javier, the suave man that seems to be a happy-go-lucky sort of guy, totally irresponsible toward the son who would like to see more of him.
