So, all in all on the surface, if you were to take Caprica on it's own and not in the BSG universe, it is a wonderfully rich and compelling human drama that held the potential to flesh out the BSG universe more-so than before.

The issue i have, however, is that it seems to take some of the mythos and history of the BSG universe and turns it on it's heels in some respect... this is seen when they show the creation of the cylons where it seems to ignore that the cylons were already created (in a sense) thousands of years prior to the show (as can be seen when the BSG convoy reaches the first earth, the last of the thirteenth-tribe's home planet after Kobol.) IF the cylons were made on Caprica, then maybe the second season would have gone on to help explain some of these inconsistencies to the BSG canon that they seem to show... as with BSG it relied on myth, legend and prophesy to help move the story along, maybe it would have helped show some of the reasons why the cylons were made as they were and why the name. (or maybe BSG would have called them something different and "Cylon" was a modern acceptance of the term for these species.)

that said, it does a good job of showing some of the decadence and sinister machinations on Caprica (and some small cameos of the other planets in the twelve colonies.) so, all in all, it certainly isn't a failure in my eyes.

It is a little bit of a pity that the show didn't get a chance to expand on all of this as i hope it would have had it continued. Still, the continuity "issues" (i don't think it's fair to call them "errors" because it didn't have much of a chance to expand on them) did break my immersion from time to time.

I think the biggest reason why i can't rate it higher than i have is that in the last episode it showed a preview of what would have been to come and therein lies where most of my issues stem. if you're looking for a high-drama science fiction story, it's worth watching. if you're looking for a continuation or fleshing out of the BSG universe, better to look at "the Plan" or "Razor."
