Two uneven animated bouts between the ultimate Marvel basher - the Hulk - and two of the more revered characters in the universe, namely Wolverine and Thor. As such Wolverine delivers a much more satisfying wallop than Thor, despite the former being notably a worse mismatch for the almighty green guy.
"Hulk vs Wolverine" takes us smack into Logan lore, featuring an all-star villain cast of Sabretooth, Omega Red, Madame Deathstrike and wisecracking Deadpool. To boot the Professor makes a welcome visit straight from the annals of the legendary "Weapon X" graphic novel. The story takes place back in the days of Alpha Flight, strongly focused in Wolverine story lines, making Hulk almost a guest appearance mainly responsible for destruction, mayhem and offering an entertaining show-down with everyones beloved clawed midget. Deadpool makes a welcome, if not always effective, cameo, hopefully offering even more room for future animation or feature film appearance. All in all well directed with some intriguing fights and even though this is nothing more than an amalgamate of various Wolverine story threads it still comes off as satisfying (albeit probably less for Hulk fans).
On the other hand "Hulk vs Thor" brings together two titans of the Marvel universe, thrusting the storyline into Asgard, thus bringing it into the pitfall of outdated olden English and slightly grating characters. Whereas Kenneth Branagh managed to bring out a sense of godly dignity to the world of Thor, Odin, Sif, Loki, the animation feels overly childish, especially in comparison with the carving bloodiness of the Wolverine part. Story in general is rushed and lacks real dramaturgy, ending rather abruptly and without a truly satisfactory resolution (not to mention one that doesn't really make sense).
All in all the high grade is owed more to the Wolverine part, which makes the animation worth the watch and attention from any comic fans, especially those hoping to see Wolverine back to the basics.
