Kiss and Tell was the Corliss Archer story, based on the hit Broadway play about two romantic and prankish teenage girls and the problems that arise when they start to become interested in boys. This causes much feuding between their parents as to who is the worst influence. The movie script has Corliss Archer ( Shirley Temple ) and friend Mildred Pringle ( Virginia Welles ) selling towels at a USO charity bazaar. Business in nonexistent so the girls decide to sell kisses. The scene required 150 atmosphere players including twenty-two kissers. The kissers were specially selected clean-cut young men, certified for their roles by a male nurse who took temperatures and sprayed their throats. Shirley Temple proclaimed " Of course I'll kiss them on the mouth," That's the only kind of kisses worth paying for," while Mrs. Temple reserved the right to veto any of the candidates kissing her daughter. Keenly observing she stated " I don't ordinarily get to see Shirley kissing." The story eventually revolves around a gossipy mistake that Corliss is pregnant. This cute film is well paced, well performed and quite amusing. It does remain dated but is still worth a curious look at the teenage Temple.
