A Geezer Having A Go
28 November 2013
Little Low-Budget Experiment from a Senior Citizen who is not yet Ready for the Pasture. Its more like He is in His Second Childhood Frolicing in the Back Yard. No Regard for Highbrow Conventions or Caring One Whit What Anyone Thinks. Just Out Playing and having some Fun.

There Certainly is a Playfulness to this because it Never Reaches for Anything too Deep. It has Enough Visual Power to Sustain its Lack of Concise Storytelling. It is a New Toy for this Aging Artist and it is called Digital. He may not have the Post-Modern Hipness of a Robert Rodriguez but He is having a Splendid Time Trying.

There are Flashes of the Once and Proud Director that Show Up On Screen in a Showy Pretension of some sort of Gothic Flashback to Films in His Lexicon, most Assuredly His Debut, Dementia 13 (1963). Overall this is a Confusing Dreamlike Story that is most Effective in the On Screen Dreams of a Nothing left to Lose (also aging rapidly) Val Kilmer in a Surprisingly Restrained and Effective Performance.

The Younger Actors Mix well with the Aging Thespians of Kilmer and Dern, but it is the Art Design that is the Star in this Uneven Film. But this Form of Graphic Displays and Visual Impressions are Worth a View because this Type of Thing hasn't Lost its Charm quite Yet and it is Nice to See a Francis Ford Coppola having a Go at it.
