Review of Der Mondbär

Der Mondbär (2008)
9/10
Delightful
7 December 2013
Our family stumbled upon this movie and my children (5 and 3) were immediate fans. Compared to the action-packed, fast-paced children's shows that abound in the media today, this delightful story was paced well enough for children to fully follow along and process what was happening and still remain engaged and interested. It was not overstimulating, but had very delightful moments of humor and charm. It did not paint the characters of the story to be perfect but more realistic (in fact, some were not very good singers at all), but the community of acceptance and cooperation was similar to what we hope our children to experience. It maintains all the good in childhood (imagination, goodwill, cooperation, adventure, problem-solving, fantasy). I highly recommend it for your younger children and I am a bit frustrated in finding a way to view this film again as Netflix has removed it. If you know of a way I can view or purchase this film, please let me know.

Some may say it's not for them, as they may be too sophisticated for it, but I think it was wonderful in preserving a childlike simplicity and wonder that I wish more adults had. (maybe it was just a matter of personal preference) Though I have a master's degree in a science, I tend to think of myself as a whimsical person who seeks to maintain a childlike heart and find delight in the little things in life. I know personal preference also varies, so read with a grain of salt.
