Review of Project X

Project X (2012)
An insult to parties
20 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Directed by Nima Nourizadeh, "Project X" is an unfunny comedy about a teenager who seeks to boost his high school reputation by throwing the "best party ever". This party involves lots of loud music, sex, booze and weed.

"Project X" reeks of neediness. Like its lead character, it wants desperately to be loved, and so throws all manners of excesses at us in the hope that we will find it appealing. We don't. "Project X" is annoying. Go away "Project X".

The film stars Thomas Mann as Hollywood's Michael Cera, Oliver Cooper as "American Pie's" Steve Stifler and various topless actresses as quasi-misogynistic eye-candy. See Michael Gondry's "Block Party" for lessons on how to throw a party with soul.
