Tony Jaa attempts mainstream without going Hollywood
8 May 2014
Could not wait to see this flick once I heard it was coming out. Tony Jaa was the next big thing when I saw the Protector, but he lost momentum somewhere around Ong Bak 2or Ong Bak 3, so I was real excited about it especially with the delay of Fast 7 which I heard he was in.

This movie attempts to put Jaa on the next level, but I got to be honest, I'm not sure if I'm ready for Jaa on the next level. The movie goes beyond the intense martial arts fighting we know Jaa to do, by adding in some amazing action scenes that fall short slightly because it's not Jaa doing what he does best.

No one can be Jackie Chan and Tony Jaa knows this, which is why the action sequence with Jaa battling an army of motorcycles has Tony using both a stunt double and green screen. It was a great attempt to exploit how cheap visual effects have gotten over the years, and Tony Jaa's attempt to grow as an action star, but I did not come to see Jaa grow.

Lucky for me Jaa did not forget what the kids came to see. Tony Jaa had a few amazing fight scenes in the movie beginning with two young Thai girls who are not on Jaa's level but it's always cool to see the chicks get into the battle.

There was a dude in the film who looked like a younger sexier Billy Blanks who gave the Jaa man a real run for his money in no less than two rounds of kung fu fighting.

But the best fight scene in the movie was Tony Jaa… Versus the RZA. It was a good fight because they made RZA look good. It seemed like he did a lot of the fighting himself, and believe me I was looking for the stunt man. I totally believed that the Wu Tang master could take Jaa.

The movie does not have much of a story, in fact it rips of the first movie pretty well, Jaa needs to keep a closer eye on his Elephant, but we go to see the fighting skills which Jaa brings, despite the large amount of wire work and visual effects used that kind of weaken it, but it's worth the watch.
