Superhit musical of Nasir Hussain
25 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Nasir Hussain after blockbuster YAADON KI BARAAT(1973) returned with another musical blockbuster which starred Rishi Kapoor alongwith his nephew Tariq Khan alongwith a newcomer Kaajal Kiran. The film also brought back RD BURMAN whose music in YKB was a superhit. The film's plot isn't it's asset, but it's well handled. It revolves around Rishi who is in search of his inherited diamonds, the film also has a long lost lovers theme wherein Tariq and Kaajal play childhood lovers. The film has all the masala ingredients required to be a hit, also it has a cameo of Zeenat Aman(even background music of YKB). The film is decent and does entertain no doubt, though it's lengthy yet it works

Direction is good Music is a big asset, RD Burman was a force to reckon with. The film has several songs people still recall. Bachna Ae Haseeno by Kishore became an anthem, it even was remixed recently and picturised on Ranbhir Kapoor(ironically the film had the song title as well). Humko To Yaara(Kishore,Asha)also was a hit, while Kya Hua by Rafi created a history and gave Rafi the national award, while the medley songs are too good as well, Chand Mera Dil(Rafi), Tum Kya Jaano(RD Burman), Aa Dil Kya and Mil Gaya(Kishore,Asha) all used in the medley became instant hits, while the title track, the only Rafi song used on Rishi in the film was a superhit too, Yeh Ladka too became famous.

Amongst performances Rishi Kapoor is superb in his role like always, though he is sort of a parallel role in the film, with the centerstage being on Tariq yet he leaves a mark Tariq doesn't impress much and his career never took off too after this hit. Kaajal Kiran too is okay for her debut but couldn't make it big Amongst rest Om Shivpuri is good, Kamal Kapoor is as usual, Amjad Khan is terrific as the villain, Zeenat Aman has a cameo and is okay,Ajit too has a cameo and is as usual, rest are okay
