7/10
Awesome film by Gulzar based on Sound of Music
6 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Gulzar is one of the fantastic filmmakers, writers Bollywood has, we all know that. Parichay is one of the best films by him and is fondly remembered. It's a remake of Sound of Music, but it's well indianised. It's based on Bengali novel Rangeen Uttarain by Raj Kumar Maitra. The film starts with Jeetendra who searches for odd jobs, he has a friend Vinod Khanna in a guest role who tells him to go the village and take a job, where he gets a job as a teacher in Pran's House The only hitch is the house has children who create a nuisance, how Jeetendra teaches them and changes them forms the crux of the story. The film is amazing, it's handling by Gulzar is simply fantastic The scenes between the children are too good, while Jeetu's fondness to them and changing them is well handled. The film has a subplot of Pran's son played by Sanjeev Kumar(cameo) who is forced to leave the house due to his liking for music and not in business of Pran, he dies leaving this children which also include Jaya Bachchan, the romance thankfully is kept to minimum and well justaxposed.

Direction is amazing Music by RD Burman is amazing, Musafir Hoon Yaaron by Kishore Kumar became very famous, while Saare Ke Saare is another superb song rest are all good

Jeetendra normally known for unique acting style, here underplays following the director's instructions and gives a superb restrained performance, he and Gulzar gave several great films like Khushboo(1975) too Jaya Bachchan is superb as ever, Amongst the kids, Baby Pinky is cute and others are good too Sanjeev Kumar is superb in a cameo, Vinod Khanna too is amazing in a short role, Pran is also superb in his role Ak Hangal and others are good
