10/10
11 years later, thousands of horror movies later, this is still one of the scariest movies I have ever seen...

Warning: Spoilers
"The Squad"(El Paramo) is a Spanish horror film about a high terrain squad of soldiers who find themselves in uncharted territory while looking for a battalion of brother soldiers who they have recently lost contact with. They were stationed at a secluded base, and upon the search squads arrival, are declared missing. It seems like this might be taking place during the aftermath of some type of war. the terrain looks like its been dug into and the air is still thick with an enveloping fog. Lost and scared, the search squad hesitantly holes up at the abandoned base nearby after one of them is wounded, and this is where they find an UBER creepy silent captive who refuses to cooperate. It's a dread inducing film drenched in rich atmosphere. It is a top shelf scary movie, but wont be appreciated by all, as this is one of the more serious, raw horror films like "the blair witch project" and "v/h/s". The themes explored are intense and terrifying and will rattle the imaginative person to the core. The world needs more of these types of horror movies. This movie moves at a slow pace for the most part, but its the subject matter, mystery, and atmosphere is what keeps the viewer glued. It is an overall great film that will terrify viewers for years to come. Maybe the single best military horror ever put to screen since its release
