I saw "Top Five", starring Chris Rock-the Grown Ups movies, Lethal Weapon 4; Rosario Dawson-the Sin City movies, Men in Black 2; J.B. Smoove-A Haunted House, Think Like a Man and Gabrielle Union-the Think Like a Man movies, Bad Boys 2.
This is a comedy that is written and directed by Chris Rock. Oh yeah, he also stars in it. Chris plays a comic actor that had some minor success with a series of movies about a crime fighting bear named Hammy the Bear. Chris is an alcoholic-he was drunk or on drugs most of his career- and is now sober for four years, so he wants to do something serious- Hey, isn't that the same plot to the recent Michael Keaton movie, Birdman? Anyway, people come up to Chris all the time and they quote lines from Hammy the Bear movies and ask Chris when he will be making a sequel-Hey, it is the plot to Birdman! Rosario plays a reporter that is interviewing Chris, so she is following him around and getting to know him. J.B. is Chris' long time friend/bodyguard and Gabriella is a reality star that is engaged to Chris. Be warned: There is some nudity, in case you think it's all just jokes. It is funny in parts, mainly because of the cameos of some of Chris' friends-I remember seeing Cedric the Entertainer, Whoopi Goldberg, Jerry Seinfeld and Adam Sandler, just to name a few. But, overall, it wasn't as funny as the previews made it look. It's rated "R" for language, crude humor, drug use and sexual content- including nudity-and has a running time of 1 hour & 42 minutes. I don't think that I would buy it on DVD, but it would be alright, as a rental.
