A Decent, Breezy Watch...
13 December 2014
Loosely based on the 1980 film by the same name, 'Khoobsurat' is a decent, breezy watch, that has something for the romantics. Its not flawless, by any means, but it benefits from good direction & impressive performances.

'Khoobsurat' Synopsis: A hopelessly romantic physiotherapist meets a handsome young Rajput prince who is the complete opposite of her and engaged to someone else.

'Khoobsurat' is a light-hearted, simple romantic-comedy, about simple characters, under circumstances of their own. Indira Bisht's Screenplay is nicely written, although the pace in the second-hour begins to lose. Also, 'Khoobsurat' overstays its welcome by at least 20-minutes. Some trimming, was strongly needed.

Shashanka Ghosh's Direction is good. Cinematography is well-crafted. Editing is a weak link. The film is loose, at times. Music by Sneha Khanwalkar & Badshah is fantastic.

Performance-Wise: Sonam Kapoor looks gorgeous & fits the role well, however, she's mechanical in scenes that demand her to flaunt her comedic side. Fawad Khan is wonderful, enacting his part with dignity & control. Ratna Pathak Shah is terrific, but its Kirron Kher who steals the show, with an electric performance. Aamir Raza Hussain deserves a special mention. He's first-rate!

On the whole, 'Khoobsurat' has its own charm, indeed!
