A solid comedy starring one of Germany's finest

Warning: Spoilers
"Otto - Der Liebesfilm" stars once again Otto Waalkes and it is the fourth installment in the Otto movie series. I would say it is pretty much on par with films 1-3 and slightly worse than the 5th and so far last entry. Here Otto goes for love again, obviously as the title implies it and has to fight two greedy sleazy fraudsters. The film is co-directed by Waalkes and Bernd Eilert who was also part of the writing team from the previous installments. The cast is a bit more famous than the ones from previous films. Klaus Meine, Ingolf Lück and Ruth Maria Kubitschek are at least known in Germany and then there is also actors from "Reversal of Fortune", "Independence Day" and "Cabaret".

Jessika Cardinahl plays Otto's love interest. She also did so in the very first film. One major difference to other films is that she is in love with him right from the very beginning, or at least attracted. On one part they recycled a joke from the previous movie, but that is not that much of a problem. It is still a funny overall effort here in Otto's first movie after the Berlin Wall fell (may that's why the Klaus Meine whistling sequences). It's not worse than any of the 3 previous films and that is not an achievement many films can say about themselves that have reached a fourth entry. If you like Otto's humor as I do, you will also enjoy the movies. The mumbling Arab guy was funny with a towel on his head and the Bärenmarke milk bear was a funny WTF moment. The final sequence this time is a lengthy Volksmusik parody. And of course you will get all the funny word games you have gotten already used to.

I recommend watching "Otto - Der Liebesfilm", the fourth Otto movie since 1985 already and it almost never becomes repetitive. The good thing once again is that you won't need any knowledge about the earlier films to understand this one, but of course you can still start with the very first Otto movie if you want to.
