Life after jail time can be a prison all its own.

Warning: Spoilers
For parolee Loretta Young, life after confinement can be tough. She can't escape from her former lover who was responsible for her going to prison in the first place. Getting a job as a nurse, she falls in love with patient Jeff Chandler. With the help of her understanding parole officer, Young gets a certificate of pardon and is able to marry Chandler, from whom she has hidden her past. But a happy marriage and a child are only temporary distractions of her past coming back to haunt her. Chandler is disgusted by her deceit and has the marriage annulled. Will Young survive all these tragic occurrences? Of course, and looking ravishing throughout.

Where many prison movies end, this film continues. Life as a parolee has many limitations and showing Young go through many indignities is a solid structure. Perhaps a bit soapy and done with very little humor, this hits the height of nonsense in a scene involving a clown/magician where Young encounters her daughter for the first time in years. Still pretty entertaining, it avoids being maudlin even if certain elements are unbelievable.
