Pointlessly nasty and harrowing

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, I know, it's shock cinema, and it's film makers trying to push the boundaries of horror, and it's a re-imagining of Poe for modern times. Nevertheless, this exercise in bloody sadism quickly becomes tiresome and repetitious. Strong visuals and energetic edits can't disguise or make up for the lack of any real heart in these stories - the filmmakers obviously just want to rub our faces in blood and feces and call it existential art-house.

I can't imagine Poe would be pleased with these adaptations of his stories. I'm not sure he would even recognize a couple of them.

Well made, but pointless. Fans of Eli Roth and his ilk will probably dig this...me, I'm going back to my Stephen King movie collection to watch "Thinner" and "The Stand".
