Chilean Crime thriller that is ruddy brilliant
1 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Maknum Gonzalez is an ageing mobster – he works for a boss man who has a heart of stone and an iron grip on his associates. Maknum is partnered with Che Longana (which translated as 'Che Sausage' on the video). After a dubious deal Maknum is betrayed and sentenced to fifteen years in prison.

While he is inside his life unravels and so does that of his girl friend. So he gets out and comes looking for revenge. To say any more would spoil the plot and the fun. This is one of those films that were clearly made for very little cash but it does not suffer for it – in fact it makes it better as the cheapness adds to its underworld charm. The music is great too a sort of cross between a spaghetti western and a sixties spy movie – just brilliant.

The acting is all pretty good too with Mauricio Pesutic as Maknum being a show stealer. At 73 minutes it is a short film but good things often come in small packages and this is certainly one of them. If you like great crime stories and a few surprises in your thrillers then this should rock your world. In Spanish with good sub titles – this is one that I find very easy to recommend.
