Needed a more captivating story

Warning: Spoilers
"Liebelei" or "Flirtation" is a German 80-minute black-and-white sound film from over 80 years ago. The director is Max Ophüls, even if uncredited, and thanks to the festival named after him, he is probably as famous today as he was back then, maybe even more. However, the fact that this film here is apparently one of his most famous and best-rated works makes me pretty wary as I did not think this was a particularly good watch. There was overacting in here on several occasions and the script and story did not impress me either. Not enough material for a film that barely makes it past the 80-minute mark, let alone really good material. The film had none of this. Neither the drama nor the romance did enough to keep me interested in the story and characters. It wasn't sweet, it wasn't heartbreaking, it was all very forgettable. Just like the film as a whole. I do not recommend it.
