New style, old problems

Warning: Spoilers
"Closed Mondays" is a 1974 animated short film, so this one is already over 40 years old now. It was made by Bob Gardiner and Will Vinton and won an Academy Award in the animated short film category. Sadly, I cannot agree with the Academy here. I guess they honored the new concept of claymation here, but there were some components in this 8-minute movie that are just bad or forgettable. First of all, the protagonist looked downright scary when laughing. Secondly, the story was absurd and not innovative either. Bringing inanimate objects to life is something that has been done over and over again in films and this one here brings nothing new to the table in terms of this recurring plot. And finally, the voice acting wasn't particularly good either. Here we have a short film that got great accolades despite being the epitome of style over substance. I do not recommend the watch.
