Average action movie with some bad acting! 3/10
10 April 2016
Review: This movie just seemed like your average action film, with some questionable characters who didn't really act that well. I liked the main villain, Mr. Washington (James Purefoy), who played a smartly dressed hit-man for the Senator (Morgan Freeman) but the rest of the cast wasn't that great. The main character, Alex Farraday (Olga Kurylenko), seemed very average for a full out action movie, and her dodgy past could have been explained much better by the director, so the audience could feel some compassion about her impossible situation. Anyway, the movie kicks off with a diamond heist, which includes a USB drive with some important documents on it. When then senator finds out that these documents have been stolen, he sends out Mr. Washington to retrieve the drive and to kill the individuals who have caused the I information to come out in the open. After killing Alex's partners in crime, Mr. Washington manages to retrieve the diamonds, which the Senator isn't really interested in, and he struggles to get his hands on the drive. When he eventually manages to capture Alex, he puts her through some gruesome torture before she agrees to take him to the drive but it turns out to be a trap, which leads to the final showdown between Alex and Mr. Washington. The ending was definitely set up for a sequel, which I won't be rushing to see, and I don't know why Morgan Freeman bothered taking part, because he's only in two small scenes. On top of that, the action scenes are really unrealistic and it amazed me how easily Mr. Washington kept on finding Alex. Anyway, it's an average watch which is non-stop intensity from the beginning to end but I would have picked a different actress to play the lead. Average!

Round-Up: What the hell has happened to Morgan Freeman! At one stage of his career, he was the thriller king, with movies like Seven, Kiss The Girls, Hard Rain, High Crimes and Along Came A Spider and he was great in Shawshank Redemption, Bruce Almighty, Million Dollar Baby, Unforgiven, Outbreak and Deep Impact but his career has taken a bit of a slump lately. Lucy, Last Knights, Transcendence and the poor Dolphin Tale 2, were disappointing at the box office but with Now You See Me 2, London Has Fallen and Ben- Hur due to be released this year, I hope his career takes a turn for the better. Anyway, this is the first movie directed by Stephen S. Campanelli but he has added his camera skills to over 90 movies since 1986, which include the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Tomorrowland and American Sniper. Although this movie does look and feel quite expensive, the whole cast needed to be changed, except for Mr. Washington and the script was pretty bad. With that aside, it is what it says on the tin and I'm sure there will be a sequel soon, if they can be bothered.

Budget: $20million Worldwide Gross: N/A

I recommend this movie to people who are into their action/crime/thrillers starring Olga Kurylenko, Morgan Freeman, James Purefoy, Jenna Saras and Ebby Weyime. 3/10
