Adequate kiddies' fare

Warning: Spoilers
After several planets have mysteriously disappeared, idiot hero boss Captain Qwark puts out a call for new recruits. Mechanic Ratchet fails his audition yet, with the assistance of robot sidekick Clank, he finds himself in the middle of solving the mystery.

Based on a series of computer games with which I am not familiar, Ratchet & Clank is a colourful and action-filled CGI feature aimed at kids. The plot – a real-estate scam – might not be the most obvious plot for kids, but it works well enough as something to hang the action and visuals on. A good voice cast comprises a mix of A-listers and (I am told) voices from the games, and they perform adequately. The CGI is less slick than one has come to expect from cinema features, although I imagine it is better than the game on which the film is based.

There is the occasional bone throne to the adults who accompany kids, but this is mainly pitched at youngsters – where I would imagine it is perfectly satisfactory – and fans of the game. I'm afraid it didn't keep me interested.
