Watchable fairy-tale adaptation

Warning: Spoilers
"Die goldene Gans" or "The Golden Goose" is an East German color film from the year 1964, so this one is already over 50 years old and many of the actors are dead already, but some of them are also sill alive and well. The director here is Siegfried Hartmann and he is also one of the two writers who adapted the tale by the Brothers Grimm for the screen here. I would not call myself a fan of GDR films at all and only a small percentage of what I saw from this no longer existing country possessed a quality where I would say that I recommend the watch. This is one of these films. Maybe the reason is the color as it was really rare in GDR films (except sauerkraut westerns). I liked that it only ran for slightly over an hour, which means it basically never dragged and the fairy-tale, or at least the way they depicted it here, was entertaining and interesting on many occasions. Yes there is a length here and there and you also find occasional overacting, but it's all nothing too serious. And nothing too serious should also be the approach you give this tale. Of course, it lacks realism from start to finish, but in fairy tales I don't think this is a problem. A solid little movie. Go check it out if you like the Brothers Grimm.
