7/10
Brit TV of Brit lit classic

Independent Bathsheba Everdene (Paloma Baeza) doesn't want to marry and be a man's property. Gabriel Oak (Nathaniel Parker) is head over heels for her but she rejects him. He loses his flock of sheep after his dog drives them over a cliff. He helps put out a fire and Bathseba, who just inherited the farm from her uncle, hires him as a shepherd. She jokingly sends a valentine to neighbor Mr Boldwood (Nigel Terry) and he becomes an admirer even proposing to her. In the end, she falls for and marries Sergeant Frank Troy (Jonathan Firth). She discovers that he's actually a degenerate gambler and had a love child with her former servant Fanny Robin after she mistakenly missed her wedding day with Troy. This is British TV doing classic British literature. Every British classic gets remade once in an era. This is perfectly fine work. The acting and the production is well done. It's classically made but not groundbreaking.
