Swingtime on Lake Louise

Warning: Spoilers
You'll go a long way to find a bigger buff of movie musicals in general, Fox movie musicals in particular and Fox musicals starring Betty Grable and produced in the forties being the ultimate. So why do I find this entry verging on the mediocre? Problem with the two male co-leads? No, both John Payne and Cesar Romero are up to snuff. Duff support? No, again, Carmen Miranda may be both a one-trick pony and an acquired taste but she gives it the old college try and Edward Everett Horton and Charlotte Greenwood know just what their fans expect and deliver it in spades. Could it then, perhaps be the score? There, my friend, you may have something. Harry Warren and Mack Gordon are heavy hitters especially when working at Fox; The two Glenn Miller movies yielded three hits apiece and it's barely a week since I watched Diamond Horseshoe which threw up two triple-distilled all-time great ballads so I feel short-changed when this title can only come up with one measly number albeit the gorgeous ballad I Had The Craziest Dream. Other than that caveat it's well worth seeing.
