Review of Keeping in Shape

Robert Benchley is at it again as Joe McDoakes, the every man trying to keep it off, stay energized, yet still enjoy a good beer every now and then. His energy is low, a cold has him down, and all he wants it something more than a plain salad for dinner. This one reel short provides the viewer with a lightly comical look on how the aging every man must work hard to keep up with the young every man, remain energetic to keep the little woman happy and yet not loose his social life because of changes to his diet and exercise routine. Benchley does his best to explain all this in a very short running time, most of it pretty funny, but rather obvious. You have to give him credit, however, as he knows how to make the ordinary situations stand out, giving this a funny sight gag at the end that makes it all worth while.
