Review of Mind Blown

Mind Blown (2016 TV Movie)
3/10
Typical made for TV schlock
10 December 2016
You may want to avoid wasting an hour and a half of your life and watch something else. Or enjoy a hobby or something. Almost anything.

While this is somewhat better than typical SyFy movies, it is definitely a rainy Saturday with nothing else to do type film. You can watch this while doing your homework and never skip a beat.

Let's start out with the main synopsis here on IMDb: it's not for this movie. Completely different plot. Whoever filed this film took that. much. care.

A few minutes into the film we find ourselves watching a live reporter commenting- twice no less- "You can see the extensive devastation behind me..." There is no devastation behind her-- just a local diner without a scratch. She follows up with, "As you can see, people are being rushed to the hospital in ambulances." There is one ambulance sitting idly while a woman's blood pressure being slowly taken as she sits peacefully on a gurney.

That sets the logic-stage for the rest of this film. There is plenty of action, several mediocre special effects, the typically goofy and totally-pointless "plot", and highly-predictable ending. This would be a funny movie except that it isn't. The single exception and redeeming factor of the film is the acting by Steve Hanks as the Colonel. Avoiding spoilers regarding his character, Hanks pulls it off with great "don't take yourself too seriously" aplomb. His climactic drama scene is worth making some popcorn. High point of the movie for me. Beyond that none of the actors are either good or truly bad; they just don't have much to work with. Given different roles they might do a lot better.

Other than that, the lead actress is "Sandra Bullock" cute/pretty, the stunt people take sufficiently impressive flips and tumbles, and the script isn't awful. It's just... SyFy. What can ya say?
