Battlefield - Disappointment 0-1
17 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Due to the anniversary of WW1 I have done some research, some reading, because it is overshadowed by WW2 in all media. I had found that it was far greater the tragedy and I that it has a unique dark atmosphere. And when I watched the B1 trailer I was positively surprised. But that was not enough...

I have played all Battlefields. The only one that I really liked was the first one and the characters in Bad Company 1 & 2. The prologue was a bit too enthusiastic and suicidal. And then, I entered the menu. And the disappointment started taking over. 5 random characters in some critical (?) battles (?), from Western Front to Arabia tell their stories. The characters are interesting, but the gameplay is awful. I died a numerous times because of no instructions or guidelines and to add salt to insult, most missions were literally "capture the flag", ripping of any cinematic feeling that were trying to impose to the player. The maps are also uninteresting, if you have played any Battlefield before, you'll find these rather poor, although you have, once again, numerous ways to succeed in the mission. But not fool yourself, it's either "simply go straightforward" or "go stealthy before you go straightforward", while always blazing through waves of bots with boring AI's (who all speak most of the time German for some reason).

The effort was just not enough for this half-baked product. I guess the multiplayer is more interesting but I was never interested in the multi. It has so much potential that lies now wasted, in the trenches.
