I had greatly looked forward to this adaption of a very good novel. 5 minutes into the first episode I was appalled by the atrocious quality of the sound and diction from the main actor, Sam Riley. Riley 'spoke' throughout in a ridiculous growly and throaty barely audible mumble which seems to be becoming a BBC speciality of late, with several series garnering similar complaints. Time to put a stop to it. What is the point of actors unable or unwilling to speak clearly?
