Resurrection: Prison Break (2017 TV Movie)
2/10
20 minutes of desperate attempts to convince us this is on the level of Mad Men, Breaking Bad

Warning: Spoilers
"Resurrection: Prison Break" is a 22-minute documentary from March this year (2017) that was made on the occasion of the newest Prison Break season and I cannot deny that this is probably one of the biggest small screen events of the year even if I personally found the original series very mediocre, pretty bad at times even. They got together most of the cast members from back then which is good for the fans, but also shows that really pretty much nobody from them ever managed to appear on high-quality television for a long time, let alone in quality big screen releases. And the consequence is this one we have here. The only thumbs-up I can give is that it includes the big name actors as well as people who worked on the show behind the camera. I guess the latter also did not manage to succeed otherwise and it is somewhat rare to see a show come back after such a long time. Of course this is never mentioned in this third of an hour we got here. Instead we get to hear superlatives about the old seasons as well as this new one from start to finish. It does get unbearable really quickly. Now I cannot say anything about the new episodes as I have not seen any yet, but about the old episodes it really is a joke. They clearly profit a lot from lead actor Miller looking 10-15 years younger than he actually is and his heartthrob appearance stuck between playing a tender yet bad-ass character is probably also one of the main reasons for the show's success. It was at the right place at the right time without ever being anything special in terms of stories, performances or the overall production. On the contrary, the lack of talent in these fields becomes painfully visible at times, even if (thanks to the likes of Fichtner for example) there are also bright moments. But far from enough to let me recommend the show. Or to give this constant and unbearable collection of interviews full of adulation anything close to a thumbs-up. You need to be a gigantic fanboy/-girl of the show and very easily influenceable to see any value in here. I suggest you stay far far away and the most impressive thing here is that these 22 minutes managed the impossible to reduce my interest in the new PB season even further.
