WHITE FANG AND THE HUNTER is another curious example of the 'White Fang-ploitation' sub-genre that did the rounds in Italian cinemas in the 1970s. These films featured stars including Franco Nero and directors including Lucio Fulci. WHITE FANG AND THE HUNTER came out the same year as WHITE FANG AND THE GOLD DIGGERS, and it shares the same director in the form of the gloriously inept Alfonso Brescia as well as the same cast. Knowing him, both films were probably made back-to-back.

This story sees White Fang teaming up with an old-time drunkard and sled driver to help a kid combat the machinations of a sinister and ruthless land owner. There's plenty of action and a lot of laughs too, and all of them are staged in a totally unconvincing way. The direction is bad, the acting resolutely over the top, the dubbing quite terrible. The snowbound locations are about the only authentic thing in this, although a scene of wolves being shot is remarkably - and unpleasantly - realistic.
