Review of Rubber

Rubber (1936)
2/10
Rubber

The film is about life in the Dutch East Indies before the 2nd Worldwar. It has a story of a young couple who lives on a rubberplantation in the 1930's. The latex won from the rubber trees is subject to the flow of the international stockmarkets. The men have to work hard and the women live idly in the house, surrounded by an army of servants. As men outnumber women, the pressure on those women is great.

The film lacks a good script. Some scenes are way too long. Sound is poor. The dialogues are hardly audible. The music is of a terrible quality, it hurts the ear. The fact that 20 minutes of the film are lacking, makes the end of it strange.
