Roger Moore got to carry a Maverick episode with the third episode of season 4
when as a gambler he tries to take advantage of the railroad coming to town.
Even to go so far as to move the town to where they think to take advantage of
a water supply.
Two performances stand out in this episode. The first is Richard Hale who plays the railroad agent and a miserly old skinflint who is trying to pick up some cheap bargains for a right of way. He's such a tightfisted man that it almost becomes a solemn duty for a Maverick to skin him.
The second is sheep rancher John Astin who plays a real country bumpkin and overacts outrageously. Him you'll remember.
