Not THAT bad

Warning: Spoilers
BUCK AT THE EDGE OF HEAVEN is a Jack London-style Italian adventure flick, set in the Alaskan wilds. Although ostensibly a kid's movie with a German Shepherd as the protagonist, this is often a nihilistic and violent story that seems to take great delight in bumping off peripheral cast members. It's not quite as assured as some of the '70s Italian flicks on the same subject (in particular those shot by Lucio Fulci), but director Tonino Ricci does his best and this turns out to be more enjoyable than the belated sequel, BUCK AND THE MAGIC BRACELET. Half the fun comes from seeing various Italian cult cinema regulars including big man David Hess, DEMONS star Bobby Rhodes, oldie William Berger, Rik Battaglia and Ottaviano Dell'Acqua.
