Constantly Connie!
21 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The wonderful Constance Collier provides a barrel of laughs as a cane wielding dowager not afraid to speak her mind and certainly not having any barrier in what she says, especially when it comes to nephew Ricardo Cortez's choice for a fiancee (Virginia Bruce). Considering actress Bruce beneath her nephew, she isn't at all sympathetic when Bruce is accused of murdering a lecherous producer (Bradley Page). But certain circumstances finds the Hildegarde Withers like Collier into getting deeper into the investigation and clues lead her to the real killer, all the while finding danger as she gets too close to the truth. The mixture of mystery, comedy, a bit of music and typical MGM sophistication takes this B movie up a notch, but there's confusing issues between the two leading ladies (Bruce and Isabel Jewell) whom somehow Cortez is both engaged to. A good supporting cast which includes Regis Toomey, Arthur Byron and Betty Furness will help amuse you in this frivolous little "B" picture that won't really waste much of your time and will make you wish that the middle section seemed to forget about Collier who is the frosting and cherry on top of this complex multi-flavored cake.
