Roxie Hart (1942)
7/10
Fun and enjoyable little film

Chicago is one of my favorite films of all time so I was both excited and a little wary of watching this version, but i'm pleased to report that it was definitely worth the watch.

Overall Roxie Heart is a lot of fun. It's short which keeps the pacing up and the movie feels light and upbeat throughout. Ginger is great as the gum smacking Roxie being naive and fame hungry but still likeable. However my favorite performance was George Montgomery's. The scenes of him in the present day are great and I've half fallen in love with him as a result. Another small part I enjoyed was Ginger showing off some of her talents with the little tap dance on the metal stairs.

Fans of the 2002 film will notice several lines and small details have made it into both versions and its interesting to see how the two handle the same material so differently.

Roxie Heart is not an amazing movie and its not trying to be. Its a fun little comedy that has a lot of charm which carries it well and keeps it entertaining.
