Warning: Spoilers
This is "God: City" an English-language live action short film of under 4 minutes that premiered in autumn 2018, so it about half a year old. The director is Oscar nominee Neill Blomkamp from South Africa and he also wrote this short film. Just like he did with the one that preceded this one here. Serengeti that one is called and I liked it. It surprised me a bit because I admittedly wasn't too big on most other Oats Studios stuff by Blomkamp, but that one was fine. Well, this sequel here isn't really. It basically does nothing except show us the idea that God is a sadist with the fire and, toa lesser extent, tornado he call upon. Or lets call upon as his butler is the one doing the work. It also kinda stopped being funny with seeing the misery of those caught up there on the rooftop. I mean I don't mind violence or situations like these, but you have to deliver a proper story that works well along the way. I would not say little film here did, even if you probably couldn't get a better choice to play (an evil version of) God than Sharlto Copley. Except Josh Brolin perhaps. Copley's collaboration with Blomkamp has been going on for a long time now. I hope they can come up with better stuff in the future than this short movie we have. District 9 is still a classic in my opinion. But "City" gets a thumbs-down from me. Not recommended.
