The best thing about this film is the music by Carlo Innocenzi, which is the one thing that is good enough to keep up any interest in this soap opera, loosely based on the Bible and making a mess of it, whisking away some of the most interesting psychological dramatic material ever written, which is a shame, because the text describing these events is actually quite comprehensive. The second best thing is the acting by Orson Welles as the godforsaken King Saul but even more Hilton Edwards as the prophet Samuel, making a grand entrance on his crutches and dominating every scene he appears in, a grand old actor actually making this film worth seeing in spite of its shallow use of a great material. Abner, another good actor (Massimo Serato) is made a villain here, while he actually later became King David's chief general. Even Orson Welles could have made more of such a fantastically fascinating case as the tragedy of King Saul. Poor show of a great story.
