A tale of a tough Irish upbringing
27 May 2019
A touching story of a hard and sometimes miserable childhood in the Irish slums. It depicts a dysfunctional family living in extreme poverty. The father is a drunk that can't provide for his family and rather spends his time in pubs instead of home. School life doesn't offer any understanding for the situation and doesn't provide a way out. The movie is shot exceptionally well with a great story at its core told from the perspective of out main protagonist, that has a certain childish charm to it. The actors are great and they are cast perfectly for their roles. Even though it paints a depressing picture of Ireland it is still a fun watch, because you can't help but root for the protagonist to make it out of the slums and turn himself into the success story his real life counterpart became.
