Excellent Visual Storytelling
6 August 2019
A short film shot in France about the American Civil War works because they translated Bierce's words into pictures that need no dialogue. I have never read the original story but I did hear a radio performance from Suspense ! with Vincent Price. It adds some details-but I won't spoil it for you. We see things through Peyton Farquahr's eyes and hear with his ears, hence no words are needed to interpret them-we are Peyton Farquahr. Almost cinema-verite. The final scene where he rushes to meet his wife-who rushes towards him-I don't think Serling could have done it better.
