Ghost Wife (2018)
5/10
Not a particularly outstanding horror movie...
4 October 2019
For a Thai horror, and in particular a Thai ghost horror, movie, then "Ghost Wife" was sadly about as generic and bland as they possibly could be.

Granted, I hadn't heard about this 2018 movie from writer and director Mate Yimsomboon prior to happening to come across it in 2019. Being a fan of Asian cinema, and horror movies in particular, then of course I jumped at the chance to sit down and watch "Ghost Wife".

The story was fairly paced, I will give it that. But the storyline and plot was just too mundane and generic. It didn't bring anything new to the genre that haven't already been seen or done before. Plus, the fact that the movie was quite predictable didn't really work in favor of the movie either.

It should be said that the acting in the movie was good. And I do enjoy watching movies where I am not familiar with the actors and actresses, thus not associating them with previously portrayed characters.

The special effects in the movie were good, and that definitely worked in favor of the overall enjoyment of the movie. But it just sadly wasn't enough to alleviate the mundane storyline.

All in all, this movie was bland. Especially for a horror afficianado such as myself. And the movie wasn't the least bit scary; maybe it was for a Thai, but not for me.

"Ghost Wife" definitely had potential, but it just ended up a very mediocre and generic horror movie.
