Review of Habit

Habit (I) (2017)
5/10
Unsavoury cannibal drama lacks bite
1 February 2020
A British horror; A modern noir with themes of misery and subversion of conventional morality. This is an engaging film, mercifully ungratuitous given the graphic brutality and violence. The cinematography is effective for the seedy criminal underworld and repulsive characters it attempts to create. However, it is mainly a fantasy tale because not enough is given in character motivation. Some of the performances are melodramatic and ungainly and while local dialect is consistent with setting it is often inarticulate and littered with an overuse of profanities.
